New Red in Town

POSTED: 16 April 2014

When the new Premier League season began, it seemed certain that Liverpool are not the team in red that would be in the discussion of winning the Premier League title.

Now, with only a handful matches remaining, it appears that the world has turned upside down.

Not only are Manchester United far from defending their title, or qualifying for a European spot, but Liverpool are now big favourites to win the Premier League – ending a drought that is older than some of their players.

The Kop To Roar!

POSTED: 11 April 2014

The big game of the weekend has to be Liverpool v Man City at Anfield on Sunday. It’s already being billed a title decider and you can see why consider the positions of the sides going into the game.

Liverpool sit top of the table having won their last 9 league games – they lie four points clear of 3rd placed City, who have 2 games in hand, if Liverpool beat City the title destiny is in their own hands.

If City win they then lie 1point back still with the two games in hand, meaning the destiny lies in their hands if they get the win. So effectively if either side wins this one and their remaining games they lift the title.

City captain Vincent Kompany came out this week to say Liverpool are the best side they’ve faced this season, despite winning 2-1 at the Etihad. Many say a vital decision against Raheem Sterling was the game changer, one things for sure this is definitely a game to watch.

Prior to the game earlier in the season that finished 2-1 to City, the previous 3 games all ended 2-2, so there’s an argument for goals especially considering you’re talking about the EPL’s top two scoring sides.

So over 2.5 goals is bound to be a popular bet, however at odds of 1.5 I find that a bit short.

Instead I’m going to go for a Liverpool win at odds of 2.4. My thought process is that the home advantage is going to be the decider.

Anfield is known for having an electric atmosphere during big matches, with the famous Kop End known for having some of the most passionate supporters in the world.

We’re talking about a potential title decider here, with Liverpool not lifting the title since 1990.

The weekend fixture will also mark the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster when 96 Liverpool fans died at a fateful FA Cup Semi-Final.

Emotions will be running high with the ongoing Justice campaign being well publicised – so with the atmosphere being charged for so many reasons, I’d be hoping the players will respond and get the vital win in what would be a huge step closer for Liverpool’s 19th title win.

Smiles At Anfield

In what could possibly be the title-decider in this year’s Premier League season, the high-flying leaders Liverpool host the offensive juggernaut Manchester City at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are currently in the driver seat but City still have a game to be played which may spell disaster for the Reds if they drop points.

The Reds have won their last nine league games and – if they manage to win their last five, are assured to lift the Premier League title. They recently outlasted West Ham United, with Steven Gerrard scoring two penalties to secure three important points.

Meanwhile, City dominated Southampton in the same gameweek. In a 4-1 contest, they displayed excellent control and knack for scoring the ball.

In their previous meeting at the Etihad Stadium, City won 2-1 behind goals from Vincent Kompany and Alvaro Negredo.

However, three of their last four have ended in draws so neither team really dominates over the other.

With all these in mind, the form and run of the Reds are big things to consider. Add to the fact that they’re playing at Anfield, the slight advantage goes to the hosts.

They’re a hungry squad who have often been considered as not one of the elite, and their passion is shown in every game so it makes them a very capable club.

Early odds from Dafabet show a Liverpool win being paid 2.38; while a City win is worth 2.63. A draw pays 3.33.

As I did in my previous articles, I’m sticking with the Reds to take maximum points. Here’s to an exciting weekend of football!

Merseyside Mayhem

POSTED: 11 April 2014

Everton really proved they have improved leaps and bounds this season, defeating Arsenal 3-0 and gifted me more money than I can spend with last week’s bet. I know most the Gunners’ slump contributed to their sluggish display, but you cannot count out the fact that the Toffees are reaching new heights under manager Roberto Martinez.

With hard work and little luck ( and more continuous bad form for Arsenal) on the horizon, the Merseyside Blue can book tickets to next season’s Champions League and battle with Europe’s premier clubs.

But this week, let us put our money on another titanic showdown that might as well decide who will lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season as Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield this game week.

Brendan Rodgers’ men currently lead the league with 74 points in 33 matches, while City, who have two matches in hand, sit at third with 70 points. A win for the Reds in this matchup means Rodgers’ side can concentrate on second-placers Chelsea, while a victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s side means they are closer in bagging the trophy they lifted back in 2012.

The last match between these two was close and controversial, but City were able to edge out Liverpool and pound out a 2-1 victory at Etihad Stadium. All three previous matches ended in stalemates, so many bookies give little payouts when it comes to betting on draws.

As tight as this match can go, Dafabet is expectedly giving high and close payouts in its markets, especially in 1x2. A Liverpool win pays 2.38, while a City victory pays 2.63 and a draw pays 3.33. Told you guys, high and close.

But you know me, I’ll go for the sure bets and usually put my money in over/under markets, where I always bet on over! With so many at stake, expect the league’s leading scorer Luis Suarez, who has 29 goals and league best 11 assists this term for the Reds, to be eager in getting his name on the score sheet.

Also, expect Suarez’ partner Daniel Sturridge to snatch all chances at goal and hope City give the Reds a penalty so Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard can score his 11th penalty of the season.

On the other side, City midfielder Yaya Toure has scored 18 goals this season, and their prolific trio of forwards – Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo – have wreaked havoc whenever possible.

Aside from the fact that this is a climax for both clubs’ title hopes, this is also a match where many goals can be scored.

Everton The Clear Favorite

POSTED: 11 April 2014

What a splendid performance it was for the Everton side against the Gunners last Sunday! The Toffees’ triumphant 3-0 victory was a huge blow on their main rivals for the 4th spot of the table which leads to the Champions League qualifiers.

With the gap now closed to just a single point and a game in hand, Martinez and his squad have every right to dream big even though they still have some tough fixtures ahead.

When Roberto Martinez signed up with the club, he set the target of qualifying for the Champions League. The fact that this target is now so close is largely owed to him and his moves during the transfer market (permanent or on loan) are a living proof of that as both Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry have boosted the team’s performance upfront and in midfield.

One can clearly see now that Everton is in top form as they count six straight wins in the EPL with their last loss being the one in Stamford Bridge when Chelsea prevailed 1-0 on February 22nd.

I certainly cannot see therefore how bottom seeds Sunderland can produce any kind of upset in their upcoming clash.

The Black Cats are now counting five defeats in their last six games while having drawn the other one. On top of that, Gus Poyet stating that he has to accept the reality and start drawing up a Plan B for a possible future in the Championship, is strong evidence to the club’s low morale whose form has nosedived in the past few months.

Everton’s straight win is priced at 1.82 with Dafabet and I’m splashing out for it as in my eyes it’s a very good one!
