Juventus v Napoli

The Italian Super Cup kicks off in the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing two weeks before the first set of fixtures in Serie A take place, and it pips the undefeated league champions Juventus who won their first title in nine years against the Partenopei, who denied Juventus a famous double by winning 2-0 in the final of the Coppa Italia in May.

Juventus have invested heavily yet again this summer, following their close-to-100million-Euro spending spree last summer, and they have coughed up another fifty million in the present close season on players such as Sebastian Giovinco from Parma, Martin Caceres from Sevilla and Mauricio Isla from Udinese to name but a few. Napoli, who managed to pip Inter Milan into fifth spot and guarantee themselves a shot at the Europa League, have also invested big, but their biggest transfer is striker Eduardo Vargas who was playing in Chile, and will be the direct replacement for Lavezzi for left for PSG. Just how he will settle into the Italian top flight is another question though.

Its most difficult to see how seriously both teams will take this game. The last three winners of the Super Cup did not win the league in that same season, but Juventus will no doubt be looking for some retribution with Napoli being the only side to defeat them domestically in the 2011/2012 season. The -0.25 looks very generous for Juventus considering the money they have poured into their squad again.

Verdict – Juventus to win.
