At All Cost

POSTED: 29 August 2014

Among the high-profile transferees last summer, it was Diego Costa who caught the eye of many.

His move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea to the tune of £32 million hogged the limelight.

Having planted his feet with the Blues, expectations were raised for the Spaniard. And when action in the new season of the Premier League got going, it was time to start repaying.

Chelsea Marching On?

POSTED: 29 August 2014

So last week’s pick of Sunderland on the Asian handicap against Man United was a winning bet, I hope that like myself you followed it up with MK Dons through the week against them as United really have problems. Is signing Di Maria the answer for them? Granted he will help, but in my eyes their problem lies in other areas so I doubt it. The 4-0 loss midweek against MK Dons, a side just 10 years old shows just how far United have slipped. Then for Van Gaal to come out and say he wasn’t completely shocked, well that amazed me – he won’t last long at the helm saying that!

They travel to newly promoted Burnley this weekend, and are 1.5 to win with Burnley trading at 6.0 – It’s a game I’d stay well away of, as at some point United’s front line will fire, albeit painting over cracks.

This weekend the game I’m looking at is Everton v Chelsea, where I believe Chelsea at 2.0 offer some good value. Everton have started with two 2-2 draws this season at Leicester and at home to Arsenal where many will say they threw their two-goal lead away, which I agree. I do note that it may be worth a small bet on 2-2 in this game at 17.0, reason being last season Everton’s first three games finished 1-1, so if they’ve already had the two 2-2’s could there be a third?

Personally I’m going to be backing Chelsea in this game as I believe the midfield that Chelsea have will overrun a misfiring Everton. I’m sure that over the season Everton won’t lose many at Goodison Park but Chelsea have hit the ground running this season and are one of the sides who are sure to be up there at the business end of the season.

Another bet I wouldn’t put people off is Liverpool at Spurs, 2.6 could be a big price come Sunday night.

Pick – Everton v Chelsea – Chelsea to win @ 2.0

Starting Off Right

POSTED: 29 August 2014

Okay, so I’ve lost a substantial amount due to Manchester United’s lack of results. They drew against Sunderland when I was expecting them to bounce back and get three points.

Anyway, I’m not making things any easier as for this week, I’m sticking to the EPL as Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

As it stands, Liverpool have three points with their 2-1 victory over Southampton. However, they recently lost 3-1 against Manchester City in what was an early match-up between top teams in the league. City’s masterclass highlighted Liverpool’s limitations and it seems that the Reds will struggle to replicate the form they had last year.

Meanwhile, Spurs had such high expectations last year. However, they were quickly dispelled as they dropped down the table as the weeks went on. This year, they’ve started perfectly – getting six points in their first two matches in the league. They beat West Ham United 1-0 in their season opener, and then trampled Queens Park Rangers 4-0 recently in their first home match.

Quality is present on both squads, and we will expect an epic encounter. In their two meetings last year, the Reds dominated – winning 5-0 at White Hart Lane and 4-0 at Anfield. However, we do have to take note that they are now without Luis Suarez who has moved to Barcelona. In return, they’ve recently acquired Mario Balotelli from AC Milan.

Will he be able to imitate what the Uruguayan did? I doubt, but his presence in front of goal should help Brendan Rodgers’ men be more menacing.

On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino has been perfect so far in the young season. Can he continue to get the most out of his players and beat the seemingly resurgent Merseyside club?

Dafabet pays 2.60 for a Tottenham win, while 2.62 if Liverpool win. 3.30 is paid for a draw. In a close match such as this, I will look at their recent head-to-head to pick Liverpool to win and hand Tottenham their first loss.

I need to win, and hopefully this gets me back on track.

Pick – Liverpool win @ 2.62

Big Time Bets

POSTED: 29 August 2014

I don’t know why I’ve been off lately, with the teams that I choose looking good for the first 45 minutes before losing steam in the last 15. Like Everton, I don’t know why Roberto Martinez allowed Arsenal to comeback from their recent meeting. I mean the Toffees were up 2-0 after just a half, before conceding two quick goals in the last 7 minutes of the game to let the Gunners get a share of the spoils at Goodison Park.

Despite my several losses, I think I have a bit of luck this week so will go for one more big time bet before I go back to my usual over/under markets, because Dafabet offers really good prices in the match between Tottenham and Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

The 1x2 and handicap payouts are really good, while the tags in my favorite market – the over/under – are not that steep, they can still pay for a few beers over the weekend. But the market I will use will be the handicap, where Dafabet offers a deadball handicap against Spurs over Liverpool.

I know Luis Suarez do not don the Merseyside red anymore, and that his replacement Mario Balotelli is not in the same level, but Liverpool are still one of the toughest teams especially against Tottenham, who they beat 5-0 and 4-0 in two meetings last season.

The bookies’ confidence for Tottenham must be coming from their recent 4-0 mauling of Queens Park Rangers, where they really showed the newly promoted side how dangerous Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics are.

This is a new and young season, so we all know that anything can happen, though momentum-wise, the visitors in London may be feeling down after a tough 1-3 loss to defending champions Manchester City.

Dafabet is paying 1.95 for a Liverpool win with a deadball advantage, which I think is big enough to recover my loss from last week. Remember, this will be my last big time gamble before I go back to my usual over/under bets, so I will put a large price on this one!

Pick: Tottenham vs Liverpool, +0 Liverpool, Liverpool to win @1.95

Blue at Goodison

POSTED: 29 August 2014

It will be a blue affair at Goodison Park as Everton host Chelsea in the English Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s men have started their season off perfect with two wins in their first two matches. A 3-1 domination of Burnley was followed by a 2-0 win over Leicester City. Both wins are coming off teams recently promoted – but make no mistake that Chelsea mean business.

Their first real test will be against Roberto Martinez’s men. However, the Toffees have yet to pick up a win in their Premier League campaign. They started with a 2-2 draw against Leicester and squandered a lead against Arsenal to get another 2-2 result.

Even worse for the Merseyside club, the two draws have stretched their winles run to seven, with their last win dating back in the previous EPL season. So that’s definitely not a good sign for Martinez’s squad.

And facing a perennial title contender in Chelsea, it’ll be another tough task. As for the Blues, the signing of Diego Costa has paid off – as the Spanish powerhouse has scored in both matches for the London club. I wonder what Fernando Torres is feeling as he looks on from the bench.

All jokes aside, this should be a very intriguing match-up. As the last two meetings between the two clubs have resulted in victories for each team – with the hosts getting maximum points.

So disregard the fact that Everton are still searching for their first win. They can make a big statement if they get it off of Jose Mourinho.

According to Dafabet, an Everton win pays 3.68, while a Chelsea win pays 2.02. If they draw 3.30 is paid.

It seems like good enough odds to put on Chelsea to win away from home, but something tells me that Everton will play their best against a big club.

Going against the grain, let’s put marginal money on the hosts this time.

Pick – Everton win @ 3.68
