No Goals Please
POSTED: 07 March 2014
So Villa cleaned up last week to return a nice profit, I still can’t believe Villa were 2.1 to win against Norwich. I suppose the hindsight of a 4-1 win for Villa makes it even more surprising – either way it was another winning week so I’m not complaining!
So onto this week and the FA Cup Quarter-Finals, for which I think I’ve found a great bet in the Arsenal v Everton game.
Even before looking into the fixtures this game automatically made me think “There won’t be many goals in that game”.
So when I looked further I noted that in the last 5 games between the two – every game has finished under the goals. In fact of the five games there has only been 6 goals in total. You have to go back to the 1st Feb 2011 to see over 2.5 goals with a 2-1 win for Arsenal.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez won the FA Cup as manager of Wigan last season, when the shocked the football world by beating Man City in a real ‘David v Goliath’ affair. He must be privately thinking if he can win the cup with Wigan who got relegated, that he has to have a big chance with Everton.
Many said one of his potential problems in the move to Everton was would he be able to keep Everton strong at the back, well he’s improved them at the back and the style of football they play. And in themselves and Arsenal, only Chelsea have a better defence this season.
Arsenal are in third place of the table and still in the Champions League (albeit 2-0 down from the 1st leg v Bayern) are fighting for three trophies. I think the FA Cup is their most realistic chance of silverware though, with this in mind I believe they’ll be cautious in their approach against a solid Everton side.
I believe this will be another tight affair, which indicates a game of few goals. So I’m going for under 2.5 goals @ 2.0.
Pick – Arsenal v Everton – Under 2.5 goals @ 2.0
