Poised for Victory

Poised for Victory

For Lille and their supporters, spring was never so lovely.

They win the Coupe de France, and a week later they claim their first league title in almost 60 years. The season is closing and Lille stand on 6 points over 2nd place (and deposed champs) Marseille. The Dogues might as well take to the streets (which they did) and begin the festivities.

No time for too much mucking about though, as they still have the Super Cup against Marseilles. But before that is the last Ligue 1 match, on Lille’s home ground and against Stade Rennes.

At home, the Dogues have impressive records, and winning this match would mean 20 consecutive home games with no losses. On the other side, Stade Rennes’ road performance is less impressive, with 3 straight losses coming before winning their last one. And head-to-head, in 10 games with 4 draws Lille has 4 victories over Rennes, who have 2.

Best if the Dogues win this match: a loss would down their spirits and momentum – unneeded especially as they prepare for the Super Cup. But with their current form, I see favour on their side. I say Lille for the win.

Verdict: Home win
